Ormoc’s number 3 wanted man falls


A COMPOSITE team captured a man who has been long been wanted for the killing of a barangay official 13 years ago. Terio Cataag, 44, a native of Leondoni here was ranked third in the Most Wanted Persons list of the Ormoc City Police Office (Ocpo) for the murder of Jolly “Bobot” Dejon, barangay chairman of Batuan, this city.

The incident happened 7:30 pm of Oct 19, 2002 at the barangay outpost of Batuan. Three men arrived on board a blue Honda TMX motorcycle without plate number and opened fire at Dejon using a cal.45 pistol. The victim died instantly of multiple gunshot at the back of the head and back of the body.


Although the motorcycle carried three men, police identified four suspects who were involved in the plot namely Danny Dañas, Roel S. Refuerzo, Roel Paredes and Cataag. In 2011, Dañas, who was then the most wanted in Ocpo’s list was killed in a police operation in Liberty, here in Ormoc.


Cataag, on the other hand, was hiding in Cebu all along. Acting on an informant’s tip, operatives namely SPO1 Samson Picardal of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, PO3 Ariel F. Villamor and PO1 Raffy M. Reposar of the Ormoc Public Safety Company (OPSC), and PO2 Hannah Lhynn Milan of the Mandaue Police Station pursued Cataag.
The suspect was caught in Sitio Panaghiusa, Tonghaan, Minglanilla, Cebu 6:00 am on Dec. 9. He was promptly brought to Ormoc to face trial. The two other suspects Refuerzo and Paredes remain at large. CInsp. Joel R. Camacho, acting company commander of OPSC credited the successful operation to the information on the suspect’s whereabouts provided voluntarly by a concerned citizen.
