Passengers told not to fall victim to overcharging tricycle drivers

“KINAHANGLAN mosubay ta sa taripa. Ang dili mosubay, dakpon.” This is the warning aired by Permits, Franchising and Licensing Chief Emilio G. Tingson upon learning that some unscrupulous tricycle drivers are overcharging their passengers during evening.

During the city government’s barangay visit in Dolores, 8.7 kms. in the outskirt of Ormoc, residents there complained that from 6:00 pm, tricycle drivers charge more than double the P10-15 regular rate to that village, to P30 to as high as P40. The drivers justify the higher fare to the absence of passengers when they go back to the city proper.

To this, Tingson said that passengers are obligated to pay only what the fare matrix indicates. He invited passengers who are victimized by overcharging tricycles to come to his office and complain. “Kuhaa ninyo ang body number unya unsang orasa ka misakay, unya iadto sa opisina,” he said.

Tingson added that they will call the attention of the Tricycle Drivers and Operators Association concerned about the complaint. It was also learned that overcharging at night is also practiced by tricycle drivers plying the far-flung routes of Valencia and Lilo-an. by Joey Vincent Motel
