The
restoration of the Ormoc Superdome puts the city in a position to host multiple
sporting events. This was bared by Councilor Ruben Capahi who said that the
Superdome management is just waiting for the operation of the new set of
electronic scoreboards.
The
vice chairman of the City Sports Council recalled that the Superdome used to
host basketball events of various levels, from the barangay city, regional to national, that its calendar was always
full. The prestigious Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) and
National Basketball Training Center were the top visitors in the stadium, and
Ormoc was even awarded Host of the Year by PCCL on 2012.
PCCL
was set to hold its VisMin eliminations on the second week of November 2013,
only to be disrupted by super typhoon Yolanda. Ormoc’s momentum as a sports
venue was halted. “Now that the Superdome is fully restored, we’ll continue to
make Ormoc fun,” Capahi said.
The
Superdome now sports a spanking new playing court flooring while the airconditioning
system is fully restored. Its newly renovated comfort rooms are bright, clean
and presentable. Mayor Ondo Codilla will allot P4,079,226.07 to further improve
the stadium’s facilities.
Meanwhile,
Capahi happily reports that another set of student players from Ormoc found
homes in bigger leagues. “Naa tay new
batch of high school standouts, mura’g
upat ni sila. Naay sa USJR (University of San Jose Recoletos), UV
(University of the Visayas) ug sa UC (University of Cebu).by Joey Vincent Motel
